United stand firm on Heinze

David Gill says Manchester United will not change their minds over Gabriel Heinze.

David Gill says Manchester United will not change their minds over Gabriel Heinze.

Liverpool are still hoping to sign the Argentine left-back but Sir Alex Ferguson has made it clear he will not be sold to United's fierce rivals.

The matter is threatening to turn ugly, with Heinze's agent allegedly possessing a letter signed by Gill confirming a sum that United would be ready to accept, and that Liverpool have already offered the necessary fee.

Liverpool's lawyers are also looking to force through a deal, but Gill remains adamant that Heinze will not be heading to Anfield.

"Our position is very clear on Gabriel Heinze and it has not changed," said the United chief executive.

Liverpool remain the only club to have submitted a written bid and Gill would be happy for Heinze to stay with United.

The player is currently on holiday following the Copa America and, even though he wishes to leave United, Gill insists he will be welcomed back.

"We have not received any bids in writing from anyone other than Liverpool," he explained.

"Gaby is due back next week. He is a contracted player for two years and unless we receive an offer which is acceptable to us as a club, he will remain with us.

"We are very comfortable with that."
