Falkirk agree Dutch deal

Dutch defender Gerard Aafjes has agreed to join Falkirk on a one-year contract.

Dutch defender Gerard Aafjes has agreed to join Falkirk on a one-year contract.

Aafjes has been training with the SPL side during pre-season, along with compatriot Roel Buikema, and has impressed John Hughes.

The Falkirk boss confirmed Aafjes, who has spent the past three seasons with Volendam, should sign in time to figure in Saturday's friendly with Ajax.

"Gerard will come in on Thursday and he will sign a one-year deal with us," Hughes told the Daily Record.

"He will then be in contention for Saturday's game."

Hughes is also keen to sign Buikema, but concedes a deal for the former Heracles winger is less than straightforward.

He added: "As for Roel, there are some complications.

"It's his decision, but he has a wife and family to think about as well."
