Toulouse opt for Cetto

Toulouse have signed Nantes defender Mauro Cetto on loan.

Toulouse have signed Nantes defender Mauro Cetto on loan, opting against making a move for Charlton's Souleymane Diawara.

Les Violets coach Elie Baup has been desperate to add defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season having lost Dominique Arribage and Daniel Congre to injury.

Diawara was an option for Toulouse, but Baup decided to go for Argentinian stopper Cetto, who can step in right away against Valenciennes at the weekend.

"He is a player with several qualities and above all he has had a whole pre-season preparation with his former club," Baup told the French press.

Diawara has now emerged as a target for Bordeaux boss Laurent Blanc as he looks to quit Championship side Charlton this summer.

The former Sochaux ace could be about to return to France, despite interest from several English clubs, and Bordeaux are thought to be serious candidates for his signature.

Blanc is also on the lookout for defensive additions and the Senegal international could fill Les Girondins' needs perfectly.
