New boy excited at challenge

Blackburn new boy Roque Santa Cruz is looking to get his career back on track at Ewood Park. Rovers sealed the signing of the Paraguayan international from Bayern Munich last weekend in a £3.3million deal. The 25-year-old admits he was going nowhere at Bayern and he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in England "This is a new beginning and I want to play and show everyone the real me," said Santa Cruz. "I did not do that any more at Bayern. I will not miss anything. I am happy now at Blackburn. This is the place to be for me." Santa Cruz says he is up for the fight to win a place in Mark Hughes' starting XI with McCarthy, Jason Roberts, Matt Derbyshire and Maceo Rigters all battling for spots in attack. "Of course it will be difficult to break into the team but I am here to work," added Santa Cruz. "Perhaps it is easier for Latin America players to go somewhere like Spain.

Challenge

"But I am looking for a different challenge and England suits me. It is a physical type of game." Hughes has been impressed by Santa Cruz and he is confident he will prove a valuable addition to his squad. "Even in his first training session he showed great qualities," noted Hughes. "Roque has great physical presence and good awareness of the other players around him. "He is a player who may want to prove a point to some people. I am convinced he will do as he has all the attributes of a top centre forward."
