Koller expects bench role

Jan Koller has admitted he may have to consider his future if he does not get regular football at Monaco.

Czech wants regular football

Jan Koller has admitted he may have to consider his future if he does not get regular football at Monaco this season. The Czech Republic striker has been disappointed to play only a small role in pre-season, with coach Ricardo Gomes preferring Frederic Piquionne as a lone front man. Koller expects it will be a sign of things to come, and he started Saturday's 1-1 draw with St Etienne on the bench. However, he is ready to fight for his place for the early part of the season at least. "For me it has been important to get through pre-season without being injured, but in five practice games I have only played three halves. "The coach says he wants to play with one striker, which is Piquionne. "If this was to happen on a long-term basis, I would have to look for something else. "However, I still want to try."

Gerard exits

Spanish midfielder Gerard has been released by Monaco by mutual agreement. The former Barcelona man only made 13 appearances for the club over two seasons as he was hampered by a series of injuries. "Monaco and Gerard have decided to end their contractual relationship on the best terms," said an announcement on the club's official website. "The club want to thank the player and wish him every success for the rest of his career."
