Toulouse ace rejects offer

Swedish striker Johan Elmander has turned down a contract extension with French side Toulouse, saying he still has three years left on his current deal. The player, who is facing a fitness race to feature against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on 15th August, signed a four-year contract with the French side in July 2006. Following his move from Danish side Brondby, he proved an outstanding success in his first season with Toulouse, scoring 11 goals and being nominated as player of the year by his fellow professionals. While pledging to remain in France this season, Elmander, 26, believes it is too early to commit to a longer contract.

Proposal

He told Sportbladet: "I have received a contract proposal from the club, which I and my agent choose to reject. "It's too early, I have still got three years left on my contract." Toulouse are crossing their fingers Elmander will be fit to face Liverpool in the third qualifying round of the Champions League with a place in the lucrative group stages at stake. The star picked up a thigh injury on the opening weekend of the Ligue 1 season, adding to the side's overcrowded treatment room.
