German adds experience

Everton have signed German goalkeeper Stefan Wessels on a one-year contract. Wessels was available on a free transfer after leaving FC Cologne and linked up with Everton for a trial earlier this month. The 28-year-old impressed while training with The Toffees and David Moyes has brought him in to provide experienced back-up for first-choice Tim Howard. Wessels becomes Everton's fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar. "I am excited to be here in England," he told the club's official website. "It is the first time I have played for a club outside of Germany but the English Premier League is a very exciting league and I am looking forward to my time here at Everton." Former Germany Under 21 keeper Wessels previously spent four years as Oliver Kahn's understudy at Bayern Munich.
