Portuguese ace linked with English move

Skysports.com understands Benfica star Nuno Gomes is a target for several English sides. The Portuguese international has spent five years at Benfica and the player is believed to be considering a potential exit this summer. The former Fiorentina hit-man is believed to have set his sights on a move to England as he is keen to try his luck in the Premier League. The news has alerted a host of clubs who are now ready to offer the experienced striker a move to England before the close of the transfer window. Manchester City, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough are believed to be keeping tabs on the skilful forward. Villa boss Martin O'Neill is scouring the transfer market for reinforcements and is keen to add to his attacking options. Manchester City are also in the market for a new forward after losing Valeri Bojinov for a number of months with a serious knee injury. Middlesbrough could also make a move for Gomes as they look for a replacement for Everton-bound Yakubu Aiyegbeni. Benfica are expected to decide on the striker's future before the close of the transfer window with new boss Jose Antonio Camacho set to analyse his squad.
