Striker back three years after last England appearance
Emile Heskey admits it is a 'huge honour' to have been recalled to the England squad.
The Wigan Athletic striker has been drafted into the squad for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia.
Heskey has not played for England since Euro 2004 and has no expectations about featuring in the Wembley double-header.
But while acknowledging his surprise at the call-up, Heskey feels his form at club level has rekindled his international career.
Pleasing
"It is a huge honour to be called up, but I have to admit it has come as a bit of a surprise to me," said Heskey in The Sun.
"I have gone on record as saying that I have never shut the door on England. However, it has been a long time between call-ups, so it is pleasing to be back.
"My only priority has been to do well with Wigan. I know that's a cliche, but it's true.
"But it's always been the case that if you are doing well for your club you have a chance of playing for your country.
"I have really enjoyed my football at Wigan over the last couple of seasons and that has shown in my performances.
"But I don't have any expectations other than to play my role as a squad player and do my best if called upon."
