Echanomi grabs rare goal in win

Leyton Orient had Efe Echanomi's first goal since October 2005 to thank for a 1-0 over Notts County in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. The young striker has endured a nightmare time with injury, but on Monday had plenty to smile about as he struck the game's only goal. Echanomi headed in Jason Demetriou's 43rd minute cross to book Orient's passage to the second round. Although Sean Thornton had to clear a flying header from Paul Mayo off the line, Orient always offered the greater threat in front of goal and struck the woodwork on three occasions. Thornton's shot rattled the bar, as did Tamika Mkandawire's, before the unfortunate Thornton did likewise with a free-kick. County will be disappointed though, for in the final minute, Matt Somner went agonisingly close to finding a leveller.
