Huddersfield manager slams international dates

Andy Ritchie is angry at the prospect of being without Michael Collins and Richard Keogh for more Huddersfield matches. Midfielder Collins and on-loan defender Keogh missed the 2-0 defeat to Crewe at the weekend due to their involvement in Republic of Ireland's Under 21 fixture against Portugal on Friday evening. Both players are also expected to be absent for games against Swansea and Leeds in November and March respectively because of European Championship qualifiers.

Unhappy

"Lots of clubs suffer and it impacts far more on the Coca Cola League than the Premier League, because they don't tend to have fixtures on the big international dates," Ritchie told The Huddersfield Daily Examiner. "It's no fault of Michael's, and I certainly don't want to do anything which will hinder his ability to win caps, because that's what every player wants to do. "But I will be seeking a conversation with someone at the FA of Ireland to put my points across to them."
