Defender faces up to three months out

St Mirren defender Ian Maxwell faces a spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery. Maxwell has been struggling with a knee problem for some time and the injury has prevented him from playing so far this season. The 32-year-old now faces three more months out of action after being forced under the knife.

Surgery

"I've had the injections then rested it, but for whatever reason it's not settled down and we have to go down the road of surgery," Maxwell told the Paisley Express. "I think I picked up the injury when I was running in pre-season, because when I went to see the surgeon he said that it was common for hill runners to get this type of problem. "He seemed confident at the time that a four-week rest would settle it down, but it's not happened, so I'm looking at around eight weeks after the operation before I can even start running again."
