Captain facing month on sidelines

Bayer Leverkusen captain Carsten Ramelow is facing a month on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery. The former Germany international midfielder sustained the injury during training and is now expected to be out of action until the middle of October. The 33-year-old midfielder told Express: "That was the third operation this year. Something just seized up in my knee." The news is a further blow to Bayer boss Michael Skibbe, who has seen his team make a disappointing start to the season. Ramelow will not only miss the club's forthcoming Bundesliga matches, but also both legs of their Uefa Cup clash with Portuguese outfit Leiria.
