Former referee feels Mourinho had himself to blame

Former referee Anders Frisk has urged Jose Mourinho to adopt a different approach when he returns to management. Mourinho parted company with Chelsea on Thursday after a poor run of results, culminating in the 1-1 draw with Rosenborg on Tuesday. Chelsea have stated that the relationship between manager and club broke down beyond repair, and Frisk is not surprised that Mourinho's personality contributed to his downfall. Swedish official Frisk retired from football following the fall-out from Chelsea's volatile clash with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League two years ago, when Mourinho accused him of inviting rival boss Frank Rijkaard into his room at half-time. "With Jose Mourinho's controversial approach, and then not getting the results, you will get the door slammed in your face sooner or later," Frisk told Sky Sports News. "It has been his decision to have an approach without any humbleness, warmness or forgiveness, and instead have this confrontational and sometimes hostile personality against other people." Frisk maintains that he is full of respect for Mourinho as a coach, and would like to see him be successful in the future.

New chapter

Asked if Mourinho had got what he deserved, Frisk replied: "I would not say that. "But hopefully Chelsea can close this chapter in their history and open another chapter with a new trainer. "Mourinho can also start a new chapter because he is a brilliant trainer. "Hopefully we will see him at another club and maybe with some other approach. "That kind of behaviour, without humbleness and warmness, and always bringing an atmosphere of hostility before matches, that is not good for the game."
