Theo Walcott is ready to make a statement for Arsenal this season and fight for his place in the first team.

Striker sets high targets for the season

Theo Walcott is all fired up and ready to make a bold statement for Arsenal this season. He missed the end of last season with a shoulder injury and this kept him out of the European Under 21 Championship finals. Now he is back in contention for a starting place in the squad and produced an impressive performance against Newcastle in the Carling Cup on Tuesday evening. Walcott told The Independent on Sunday: "I thought I did all my jobs right, worked hard, got crosses and shots in, did everything but score really."

Targets

He may make the bench for Arsenal's UEFA Champions League trip to Steaua Bucharest on Tuesday and has set his aims for the season. He said: "This season I've set very high targets really, of 25 starts and 10 goals. "The thing I'm concentrating on in my game at the moment is the final third, making the right decisions about whether to shoot or cross. "But I don't want to put pressure on myself about getting goals, just work hard in training and do my jobs right."
