Captain praised for inspirational leadership
Rangers striker Jean-Claude Darcheville has praised captain Barry Ferguson for his inspirational leadership.
Darcheville, who arrived at Ibrox over the summer, has been impressed by Ferguson and believes he is good enough to play for any club in Europe.
He thinks Ferguson showed how important he was to the team when he returned from injury to help Rangers to a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart two weeks ago.
"Barry is the boss. For me he could play in any great European club," Darcheville told L'Equipe.
"A fortnight ago against Stuttgart we waited for him for seven minutes, when the doctors put stitches in his head.
"When he left the pitch we conceded a goal, when he came back we equalised.
"I never experienced something like that before. He galvanizes the team and the fans.
"Without him, we lose 30 to 40 per cent of our means."
Letizi hits out at Ferguson's power
Ferguson's influence at Rangers has also been noted by former goalkeeper Lionel Letizi, who is now with Nice.
Ferguson was stripped of his captaincy last season by then manager Paul Le Guen, but it was the French tactician who parted company with the club weeks later.
Letizi commented: "Paul knew by removing the armband from Ferguson, he had signed his own death warrant.
"Barry has such a power towards the media, the officials and the whole changing room, but it is underhand.
"It was the first time I saw a player succeed in getting a coach sacked.
"We have to recognize he has a technique greatly superior to the average level in Scotland, but I believe he would be ten times more respected without his negative side."
