West Ham striker Dean Ashton has been handed his second international call with Steve McClaren shorn of the services of metatarsal victim Emile Heskey, who made such an impact alongside Owen in the recent victories over Israel and Russia.
Newcastle striker Owen, who only underwent surgery to resolve groin and hernia related injuries six days ago, has already returned to training with his club.
