Fifa are planning changes to rules on third-party ownership of players as a result of the Carlos Tevez case.

United striker case raises debate

Fifa has confirmed it is planning rule changes with regards the third-party ownership of players, as a direct result of the Carlos Tevez affair. The Manchester United striker was the subject of a much-protracted legal battle when he signed for West Ham last term, due to a third-party agreement, which gave certain rights to Media Sports Investment. Such stipulations contravened Premier League rules and Fifa has now decided to look into the matter.

Committee meeting

The Tevez case was raised at Fifa's strategic committee meeting, which was held on Tuesday. "As a result of the Tevez case, immediate action was also called for as regards third-party ownership of players," read a statement. "The Fifa administration is working on a simple and effective solution as part of the transfer regulations that will be submitted to the world governing body's legal committee."
