Sky Blues talk to 'five parties'

New Coventry chairman Joe Elliott insists the club are still "talking to five different parties" about a potential takeover.

Chairman claims takeover talks continuing

New Coventry chairman Joe Elliott insists the club are still "talking to five different parties" about a potential takeover. The club were rocked earlier this week when Manhattan Sports Capital Partners Limited withdrew their interest in a possible takeover. Elliott assumed the role of chairman after Geoffrey Robinson, the Labour MP for Coventry North West, stepped down from the post with immediate effect. But former director Elliott was quick to dispel rumours Robinson had resigned due to the collapse of the Manhattan Group's proposed takeover of the Coca-Cola Championship club, citing his political duties as the sole reason for his decision.

Made sense

"Geoffrey's a very busy guy and he's heavily involved down at Westminster with the Gordon Brown Government so it made sense really," Elliott told the club's official website. "Geoffrey's done a fantastic job for the football club and he's still there but I'm here all the time and he said you look after (chairman duties) while I'm down at Westminster and that's exactly what I'm doing. "The latest is we are really talking to five different parties but the good news is that over the past few days relationships between the council and ACL (Arena Coventry Ltd) have really gone very well and things are moving forward."
