Barcelona are in talks with Lionel Messi over reviewing his current contract at Camp Nou.

Argentine's displays earn him renewed talks

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain has revealed that the club are in talks with Lionel Messi over reviewing his current contract. The Argentine wonderkid put pen-to-paper on a new deal in September 2006, but reports now suggest Barca are willing to improve the terms of the contract. Messi is one of football's most sought after talents, and the Spanish club are keen to ensure he is happy at Camp Nou. Begiristain dismissed rumours linking the forward with a move away from Frank Rijkaard' side, and explained that he firmly believes Messi deserves an improved contract.

Renegotiating

"We are not worried about rumour of offers for the youngster," he explained. "Leo is happy at Barcelona and signed a deal until June 2014, but the club is open to renegotiating some of the conditions - Messi deserve this. "Leo gives us 100 per cent and can help us win many titles with us and Argentina." Messi's current contract reportedly earns him €5million (£3.5million) a year, and the 20-year-old is valued at €150million (£105million).
