Togo midfielder granted work permit

Moustapha Salifou has linked up with his Aston Villa team-mates after the midfielder was finally granted a work permit. Villa manager Martin O'Neill signed the Togo international on transfer deadline day but the club and the player have had to endure a frustrating wait for almost two months. The 24-year-old is now likely to play some part in Villa's reserve match against Chelsea on Monday.

No pressure

O'Neill told the club's official website: "I'd think very, very definitely he'd be involved. He's arriving with no pressure on him - he's on a one-year contract - but it is nice to see him! "Absolutely none of this is his fault at all. We thought the whole thing was cleared on the last day of the transfer window. "But through a collection of circumstances there's been a delay. There's a real hunger from him to play, certainly from the convoluted conversations I've had with his agent - he was really dead keen to come."
