Port Vale caretaker boss Dean Glover insists ex-Valiant Danny Sonner is not set to sign for the club

Vale caretaker boss rules out immediate return

Port Vale caretaker manager Dean Glover has played down rumours that veteran midfielder Danny Sonner is set to rejoin the club he left last year. Sonner, 35, watched the Valiants suffer their fourth defeat in five matches against Brighton but Glover insists he won't be signing the player. He told the Stoke Sentinel: "Danny has come to watch the game and that's it. He can't play for anyone until January." League regulations state that Sonner can't join a club until the transfer window re-opens as he was registered with Walsall on deadline day.

Loophole

However, a loophole in the rules means that if Sonner were to rejoin the Saddlers he would be able to go out on loan - possibly to Vale Park. Sonner, who played 87 times for Vale, has admitted he would like the chance to speak to the club. He said: "I'm a Vale fan, so of course I am interested in going back. But it would be a waste of time me being interested if the club doesn't want me. "Dean said to ring him and have a chat, so maybe I can do some training."
