Juninho Pernambucano set Lyon on their way with the opener from the penalty spot on 12 minutes and Anthony Reveillere added a second just six minutes later. Sylvain Monsoreau pulled a goal back for Monaco four minutes before half-time, but French international Karim Benzema restored the two-goal cushion for Lyon five minutes after the break. Rennes climbed up to third spot with an impressive 3-0 win over high-flying Le Mans. Mickael Pagis opened the scoring on 11 minutes and veteran striker Sylvain Wiltord doubled the lead on 53 minutes. Julian Esteban added a third in the closing seconds to complete a good day for Rennes. Auxerre got the better of Lorient after an eight-goal thriller at Stade Abbe-Deschamps. Rafik Saifi gave the visitors a shock lead after just five minutes, but Daniel Niculae drew Auxerre level on 54 minutes. Saifi restored Lorient's lead just before the hour mark, but Ireneusz Jelen (72, 74) turned the game on its head with two goals in as many minutes. Niculae netted his second of the contest on 82 minutes and Jelen completed his hat-trick in the final minute. There was still time for Kemal Bourhani to find the net for Lorient, but it was little more than a consolation. Metz remain rooted to the bottom of the table after a 3-1 defeat at Nice. Bakari Kone got the ball rolling for Nice on 11 minutes and he added a second from the penalty spot just before the hour mark. Cedric Kante made it 3-0 on 65 minutes before Cedric Barbosa pulled a goal back for Metz three minutes later. Caen climbed out of the bottom four with a 1-0 victory over Lille with Jeremy Sorbon scoring the only goal of the game just before the hour mark. Paris Saint Germain's struggles continued after being held to a goalless draw at Valenciennes. Bordeaux remain fourth after a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg. Kevin Gameiro fired Strasbourg in front on 15 minutes, but former Sunderland and Manchester United striker David Bellion grabbed a point for Bordeaux on 62 minutes.
