Torum goes following stunning win over Valencia
Knut Torum has left his position as coach of Rosenborg just a day after masterminding the 2-0 win over Valencia.
The Norwegians ended a six-year wait for a UEFA Champions League group phase home win with victory over Valencia on Wednesday night.
The result lifted Rosenborg into second place in the group, but domestically the club are struggling in sixth position.
Torum, who took on the job last year, conceded the team's form in the Norwegian league was a factor behind his departure.
Merciless reading
"I have, to the best of my ability, tried to deliver," said Torum.
"The tables are merciless reading, especially for a club that winning the Norwegian series is more of a rule than an exception.
"Rosenborg has always been about team work and it would have been wrong to keep on holding on to the position as head coach.
"As I leave, I can think back on a lot of positive experiences of Rosenborg."
Remembered
Torum's assistant Trond Henriksen will assume the role until the end of 2007, while club chairman Terje Svendsen paid tribute to the outgoing coach.
Svendsen said: "We naturally do not place all the guilt for this season's bad results on the coach. Last season Knut Torum came as a rescuer and did a tremendous and fantastic job for which he will always be remembered.
"But lately we have got into conversations about the future of the club and as a result of that we have decided to release our head coach from his contract."
