Midfielder hopes for first-team opportunity

Teddy Bjarnason is hoping that Celtic's hectic fixture schedule will offer him an opportunity in manager Gordon Strachan's first team. Celtic were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Benfica in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday and face a difficult domestic match against Motherwell on Saturday. Bjarnason, who was on the Celtic bench for last weekend's 3-0 Old Firm defeat to Rangers after recovering from a broken metatarsal, has failed to secure a place in the the Bhoys first team since joining the club from KR Reykjavik in 2005. However, the Icelandic international midfielder is hopeful of securing his first game of the season as the heavy fixture list begins to build.

Patient

"There have been loads of games and people must be starting to tire," Bjarnason told the Celtic View. "That's when I'll be hoping to get my chance, when the manager has to use more players, and I'll be ready to take it. "But I'll just have to wait and bide my time. The team is playing well this season and they have shown that by beating Milan, last season's Champions League winners. "They have had a lot of difficult games and they have done very well, so I have to be patient."
