Chilean considered for Blues role
Manuel Pellegrini's agent has claimed that Chelsea made contact with him following Jose Mourinho's departure.
Alberto Poletti has revealed that he has had contact with The Blues and admits the Villarreal boss is keen to try his luck in England.
Interest
"In the last months Atletico Madrid showed interest in him but as he had given his word to Villarreal he will stay with this team until his contract expires and a few weeks ago some people from Chelsea has asked me about him," Poletti told La Tercera.
"Since Mourinho left Chelsea there have been many candidates for that position and Pellegrini has been one of the names proposed for that position.
"Pellegrini is very interested in working in England because they have one of the most important leagues in the world and Pellegrini is sure that he has the capacity to work there."
Since his early days coaching back in his homeland Chile, Poletti admits he is delighted with how Pellegrini has progressed.
Pleased
"I am very proud in which the way Pellegrini has been growing up in his career because since he left River Plate he had the chance to work in Mexico but he arrived in Villarreal where he has had very good performances," he said.
Pellegrini has been in charge of the Yellow Submarines since 2004 and has been hugely successful at El Madrigal - including guiding them to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2006.
Villarreal currently sit third in La Liga after making the best start to a league campaign in their history, but Pellegrini has less than 12 months left on his current deal and is expected to leave at the end of the season.
