Sporting Lisbon president Felipe Soares Franco insists that Miguel Veloso will not be sold in January.

Sale of United and Arsenal target ruled out

Sporting Lisbon president Felipe Soares Franco insists that Miguel Veloso will not be sold in the January transfer window. Veloso is being watched closely by Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as a host of big hitters from around the continent including Juventus and Internazionale. Veloso's representatives have received a number of approaches and have claimed that an English club has come close to matching the £20million release clause in his contract. A move in January was being talked up - but Sporting supremo Soares Franco insists that he will not be allowed to move. Soares Franco stated that when Veloso signed his new contract in January 2007 he agreed not to move for at least 18 months.

No exit

"There really does not exist a chance of the player's exit," said Soares Franco. "This is down to the deal he signed last season - it is impossible. "We are not interested in negotiating this subject because Miguel Veloso is one of our main players for this campaign." The Sporting supremo insisted that he has not received any official offers - but he knows about the interest. "Formally we have not received any offers for the kid, although we know the interest of some clubs," he said.
