Midfielder stalls on signing new West Brom contract
Zoltan Gera admits he is in no hurry to sign a new contract at West Bromwich Albion.
The Hungary international's present deal expires at the end of the season and talks have been held regarding an extension.
But, having started the club's last three matches on the bench, the midfielder is wary about committing his future to the Championship club.
"I am not satisfied with my present situation - mainly because this season I was very confident of being involved and was pleased with my form," Gera told the Hungarian press.
Mistake
"I am not happy at all if I have a good contract and earn a lot of money, but find myself sitting on the bench week after week. I would rather not sign a contract on that basis.
"I know there are no guaranteed positions in the starting team, but my only conclusion at the moment is that I am not in the manager's plans as an important player and while that happens it would be a mistake to sign a contract and commit my future to the club.
"I love Albion, the players, the fans, but based on what is happening I won't hurry to sign a contract. I would like to establish how important I am."
Valued
West Brom boss Tony Mowbray insists that Gera remains a key part of his plans, telling the Birmingham Mail: "Zoltan is fully aware of my thoughts on the position.
"We've offered him a very good contract and his situation is the same as all the midfielders, who have all spent time on the bench.
"Zoltan is a much, much valued member of our squad and will get as much game time as anyone else."
