Hornets aim to stretch lead at top of table

Watford will aim to strengthen their position at the top on a weekend of Championship action that features several eye-catching encounters. Aidy Boothroyd's Hornets, who are six points clear of their nearest rivals, face third-placed West Brom at Vicarage Road. There is another battle between two of the top five sides in the division as Wolves face Bristol City, while Southampton meet Charlton and Stoke play Coventry in other heavyweight contests. Managerless Leicester take on Colchester on Saturday evening, live on Sky Sports 1. Sky Sports 1 is also showing Sunday's East Anglia derby, as bottom-of-the-table Norwich look to defeat high-flying Ipswich in Glenn Roeder's first game in charge.

Saturday

Barnsley v Preston
(Home 11/10 Draw 9/4 Away 2/1) Jonathan Macken could go straight into Barnsley's starting line-up after arriving on a two-month loan deal from Derby this week, while Hungarian forward Istvan Ferenczi is also back in contention after an ankle injury. Simon Davey must therefore decide whether to leave out either Miguel Mostto or Kayode Odejayi, who have played up front for The Tykes in their last five matches. John Halls is in line to make his Preston debut after joining on loan from Reading, with Liam Chilvers still out with a groin strain and Youl Mawene suspended. Billy Jones (hamstring) could return and Callum Davidson is back after a one-match ban.
Colchester v Leicester
(Home 5/4 Draw 9/4 Away 7/4) Teddy Sheringham is suspended for Colchester after being sent off in the 1-0 defeat to Coventry, so young striker Jamie Guy comes into contention. Goalkeeper Aidan Davison is doubtful with a shoulder injury, but defender Bela Balogh is available again after sitting out last week with a broken nose. Leicester are without Levi Porter after he suffered a knee injury against Chelsea but Collins John, who was cup-tied for the dramatic 4-3 defeat, returns to the squad. Stephen Clemence, James Wesolowski and Iain Hume are still sidelined.
Plymouth v Sheffield Wednesday
(Home 4/5 Draw 9/4 Away 3/1) Plymouth will be without Gary Sawyer (ankle) but striker Jermaine Easter could make his first start since joining from Wycombe. Peter Halmosi and Lee Martin should be passed fit after suffering knocks as Ian Holloway's side look to climb into the top six. Sheffield Wednesday's Glenn Whelan is suspended and boss Brian Laws will also be without Graham Kavanagh. Steve Watson, Yoann Folly and Kenny Lunt are all in contention, but Wade Small is a major doubt and Francis Jeffers remains a long-term casualty.
Queens Park Rangers v Hull
(Home 5/4 Draw 9/4 Away 7/4) Akos Buzsaky is set to make his QPR debut in Luigi de Canio's first game in charge. Dexter Blackstock is still recovering from a knee operation, and Pat Kanyuka (thigh) and Simon Walton (broken leg) remain sidelined. Caleb Folan faces a late fitness test for Hull after recovering from the foot injury he sustained in September, while Jay-Jay Okocha is also available again following a stomach bug. Dean Meaney returns from suspension, but Phil Brown may decide to stick with David Livermore and Ian Ashbee in central midfield.
Scunthorpe v Crystal Palace
(Home evens Draw 9/4 Away 9/4) Keeper Joe Murphy (thigh) is a major doubt for Scunthorpe so Josh Lillis is on stand-by again. Matt Sparrow is also doubtful with a hamstring injury. The Iron are unbeaten in their last three Championship games and may climb into the top four this weekend if results go their way. Neil Warnock will be without Tom Soares (suspension) as he seeks his first win as Palace manager. 15-year-old John Bostock could feature from the bench again after his promising display in the 2-0 defeat to Watford, but Paul Ifill, Paul Dickov (both hamstring), Danny Butterfield (buttock), and Mark Kennedy (calf) are all struggling.
Sheffield United v Burnley
(Home 5/6 Draw 9/4 Away 11/4) Ian Bennett is set to continue in goal for The Blades, with Paddy Kenny missing again. Gary Cahill and Phil Bardsley are set to return in defence, while Billy Sharp is hoping for his first Championship start in two months after playing against Arsenal in the Carling Cup. Burnley captain Steven Caldwell was forced off after ten minutes against Southampton last Saturday and has been ruled out for six weeks with a torn thigh tendon. Michael Duff and Besart Berisha (both knee) are also long-term absentee, so Steve Cotterill could call on veteran defender David Unsworth to face his former club.
Southampton v Charlton
(Home 5/4 Draw 9/4 Away 7/4) Southampton are set to be without defenders Andrew Davies, Alexander Ostlund, Darren Powell, Claus Lundekvam and Chris Makin, so John Viafara is expected to line up alongside Wayne Thomas at the back. Saints, who are looking to push towards a play-off place, will also give a late fitness test to Jason Euell. Alan Pardew may hand Izale McLeod his second start of the season as Charlton have struggled for goals in recent weeks, with just two goals in their last four games. Midfielder Darren Ambrose is also pushing for a return after a lay-off.
Stoke v Coventry
(Home evens Draw 9/4 Away 9/4) Richard Cresswell returns from a one-match ban and looks set to play from the start, while Ricardo Fuller is also expected to shake off a knock in time to feature. Danny Pugh could make his debut after moving on loan from Preston, but Mamady Sidibe (gashed arm) is unlikely to make the squad due to a lack of match fitness. Julian Gray is extremely doubtful for Coventry after being withdrawn at half-time in the Carling Cup defeat to West Ham, while Dele Adebola is also struggling with a hamstring strain. Leon McKenzie is another absentee but he is making good progress in his recovery from a knee injury and may be back in contention for the trip to QPR on Tuesday.
Watford v West Brom
(Home 10/11 Draw 9/4 Away 5/2) Mart Poom has missed Watford's last four games with a back injury but is set to line up in goal for Watford. Lee Williamson has served a three-match ban but could struggle to win his place back in the side. On-loan Hearts striker Roman Bednar could be included in West Brom's squad for the first time after recovering from a back injury. Manager Tony Mowbray has no new injury problems to contend with.
Wolves v Bristol City
(Home 10/11 Draw 9/4 Away 5/2) Matt Jarvis could finally make his full debut for Wolves after recovering from a hip problem, but Darron Gibson (groin) is doubtful. Jody Craddock (ankle), Gary Breen (knee) and Stephen Elliott (hamstring) are also injury concerns. David Noble will travel with the Bristol City squad despite being struck down by illness for most of the week. Christian Ribeiro could also figure after impressing for the reserves in recent weeks, as Gary Johnson's side look to close the gap on Championship leaders Watford.

Sunday

Norwich v Ipswich
(Home 7/4 Draw 9/4 Away 5/4) Canaries left-back Adam Drury has been ruled out for several months after having an operation to repair knee ligament damage. Birmingham defender Martin Taylor, who has moved to Carrow Road on loan, is poised to make his debut alongside Jason Shackell in the centre of defence. Tommy Miller (ankle) is doubtful for in-form Ipswich and may not be risked, with a return at Sheffield United next Tuesday more likely. Richard Naylor (foot) and Gavin Williams (ankle) are both closing in on first-team comebacks but are not quite ready to make the short trip to Norwich.
