Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the FA Women's Super League 1 to seven points with a scrappy 2-1 win over Reading.

City looked comfortable for large periods of the game, but were wasteful at times, struggling to capitalise on a string of early chances and eventually had Isobel Christiansen and Toni Duggan to thank for two clinical finishes.

On the 38th minute Nikita Parris pulled back a cross to leave Christiansen - making her 50th appearance for the club - with a free ball on the edge of the six-yard box, which she calmly headed home.

Jade Boho-Sayo looked isolated up front for Reading, and the team wasted several chances on the counter as City dominated possession.

Despite Reading really failing to produce any clear-cut chances in the second half, City failed to stamp their authority on the game.

That was until the 80th minute, when Reading failed to clear a corner, and substitute Duggan thumped home first-time from the edge of the box into the top corner.

There was still time for Reading to grab a consolation goal as Parris clipped Emma Folis in the area, and Lauren Bruton dispatched the spot-kick into the bottom left-hand corner.
