Steph Houghton led Manchester City to a 4-0 Women's Super League win over Everton on Thursday night.

The England skipper captained City just two days after husband Stephen Darby, the Bolton defender, announced his retirement after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

Houghton almost grabbed a goal with a free-kick which flew narrowly wide.

Georgia Stanway scored the opener in the 13th minute with a drive from the edge of the area following a half-cleared corner.

Nikita Parris added two in the space of four second-half minutes and Claire Emslie volleyed number four in stoppage time.

Manchester United moved back top of WSL2 with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United at Leigh Sports Village.

On the back of a 12-0 thrashing of Aston Villa, they began strongly again, taking the lead inside 12 minutes when Katie Zelem slotted home a penalty when Lauren James was fouled.
