Notts County Ladies defeat Bristol Academy 1-0 in WSL1

Jade Boho-Sayo’s first-half effort was enough to earn Bristol Academy their first win of the FA WSL1 season as they defeated Notts County 1-0 at Meadow Lane.
The home side, who lost to Chelsea by the same scoreline in the first women’s FA Cup final to be contested at Wembley, started the contest brightly and created numerous half-chances.
Jess Clarke caused problems for the Bristol defence as the hosts piled on the pressure, while Dunia Susi almost got on the end of her cross to score the opener.
Instead, it was Academy who broke the deadlock after 22 minutes when a deflected ball into the box fell to Boho-Sayo who looped a header over goalkeeper Carly Telford and into the net.
The away side continued to frustrate the Lady Pies after the break and began to grow in confidence as they sensed they could catch their opponents on the break.
County were next to go close, however, when Susi’s header hit the post from a corner but Boho-Sayo soon caught them napping with a shot from just inside the half-way line that rattled the crossbar.
The hosts continued to press forward, with England international Laura Bassett firing over from six yards out and despite sustained pressure, Bristol held on for their third win in four matches in all competitions.
