Sunderland Ladies' Beth Mead says she will continue to work hard after being omitted from the England squad

Sunderland Ladies hot-shot Beth Mead says she will continue to persevere after being overlooked for England selection by head coach Mark Sampson.

Mead scored 10 league goals to help Sunderland win promotion from FA WSL 2 last season and has netted 11 goals in 12 top-flight games this term to lead the FA WSL 1 goalscoring charts.

Despite the England youth international's rich vein of form, she has not been included in Sampson's squad for the Euro 2017 qualifier against Estonia on Monday night.

"I was disappointed not getting picked but I'm sure Mark will pick me when he thinks I'm ready," Mead told Sky Sports News HQ.

"All I can do is keep training and keep working hard and try my best to get myself in his eyeline.

"I respect Mark's decision. He thinks he's got the best mix. I wish him well and I wish I was there but maybe I'm not ready and maybe he thinks I'm a little too young or not experienced enough.

"I'm sure there are a number of factors," added the 20-year-old striker. "But I'll just keep going and keep working hard."
