Defender signs until 2012
Bayer Leverkusen have handed Germany international defender Gonzalo Castro a new deal.
The 20-year-old right-back has put pen-to-paper on an extension keeping him at the BayArena until 2012.
"Bayer is my club and I'm convinced that we will have a lot of success with our team," Castro told the club's official website.
Castro, who came through the junior ranks at Leverkusen, made his first team debut in 2005 and is now an important member of coach Michael Skibbe's starting line-up.
Ambition
He follows team-mates Simon Rolfes and Rene Adler in signing new long-term deals as the club attempts to build a squad capable of challenging consistently for honours.
Skibbe expressed his delight at Castro's deal, saying that it was another positive move for the future of the club.
"It shows that we are able to keep hold of our best players," he said.
