Chickens Kiev

Image: Saha: could get his chance

Thommo says Dynamo Kiev are terrified of coming to Old Trafford, so Man Utd can afford to rest some of their stars.

Man Utd v Dynamo Kiev

Over the last five years, the name of Dynamo Kiev has become less and less intimidating. A few years ago they were quite awesome, particularly at home, so I thought it was outstanding for Manchester United to go there two weeks ago and win 4-2. It was a brilliant scoreline and that will frighten Kiev coming to Old Trafford. They don't travel well and their manager, Jozef Sabo, will miss the game for health reasons, which will have a further damaging effect on them. So I think Sir Alex Ferguson will see the match as an opportunity to rest some of his players and I can see either Wayne Rooney or Carlos Tevez being left out for this one. Those two have been playing really well together and their link-up play has been excellent, but Sir Alex has seen what they can do in the last few games. Louis Saha is fit again and desperately needs a game, so I can see him getting a start. I wouldn't say he's got anything to prove because everybody knows his capabilities, but he's had three or four injuries and he needs to take all the games that he can muster.
Capable
This is going to be one of those chances and he's got to use this game to show everybody that he's still around and he's still capable of producing at the top level. It would be daft to question a striker of his talent, but he needs to show he's capable of scoring goals again. Man United know they can qualify for the knockout stages if they win this game, but they've got two more to come, so they are comfortable. They are at home and Kiev are frightened to death of coming to Old Trafford, so I would think this is the game when Alex can afford to rest anybody with a slight knock or anybody who is feeling a bit tired. But that isn't to say Sir Alex isn't taking the competition seriously. He will always say that United have underachieved in the Champions League, having only won it once during his reign, and I think he would be making this his priority this season. He'll always say that the Premier League title is his bread and butter, but he needs to win the Champions League a few times if he is to lay claim to greatness - not only for himself, but also for Manchester United.

Thommo's Call

HOME WIN: I think Manchester United will rest one or two players, but can still win it 3-0 with whoever they play.
