Former Gretna boss shocked after axe

Rowan Alexander has signalled his intent to fight after being officially dismissed by Gretna. He has also revealed that he was 'shocked' upon discovering that the club had decided to terminate his contract. The Scottish side chose to draw a line under Alexander's reign on Tuesday, after several months of uncertainty regarding his position as manager. Following the axe, reports emerged that the 46-year-old was set to appeal and take Gretna to court - and Alexander has confirmed that he hopes to be reinstated. "I was shocked and I've not slept much overnight," he said. "We all know the connection I've had with [Gretna financial backer] Brooks (Mileson) over the last five years and I was shocked, really shocked.

Devoted

"It's a club I've devoted a lot of my life to; I've made sacrifices to be there. "After the success that we've experienced up until now, why leave something like that? "I was the manager and I felt that the group of staff that we had together was good and we had a good working relationship throughout those years. "I have nothing against anybody at that club and I would certainly welcome a recall back to the job." An appeal is expected to be heard before the end of the month, after which the case could go to an employment tribunal if Alexander is not reinstated.
