Dutchman confirmed as manager of Los Angeles Galaxy

Ruud Gullit is excited by the challenge ahead of him at Los Angeles Galaxy after being confirmed as manager. The former Newcastle and Chelsea boss, who made 66 appearances for Holland as a player, replaces Frank Yallop. Yallop departed for San Jose Earthquakes last week after failing to lead Galaxy to the Major League Soccer play-offs. But Gullit is confident the future is bright for Galaxy and for the sport in America in general. "There is a huge potential here," Gullit said as he was presented to the media. "So many people like their sons and daughters to play football, sorry soccer. "Therefore there is a lot to gain in this country and I would like to be a part of that. "The ambitions of the club and the philosophy of the club has been explained to me and if we can introduce that, as well as the discipline we have in Europe, we can achieve something here." It is understood that Gullit has signed a three-year deal and will become the highest paid coach in Major League Soccer history.
