Ricardo Carvalho has been forced out of Portugal's squad for their forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.
The Chelsea defender picked up a back injury in last weekend's draw with Everton.
Chelsea are still waiting to find out the full extent of Carvalho's injury after he underwent scans on Monday.
Portugal's team doctor Henrique Jones claims Carvalho has injured his spinal column and could face several weeks on the sidelines.
It means that Carvalho will miss this weekend's Euro 2008 qualifier with Finland and the clash with Armenia four days later.
