Ukraine boss out to block Les Bleus

Ukraine manager Oleg Blokhin has set his sights on blocking France's path to the finals of Euro 2008. Blokhin's side have no chance of qualifying for next summer's finals in Austria and Switzerland, but he is intent that France will suffer the same fate. Les Bleus will qualify automatically if Italy beat Scotland at Hampden Park on Saturday. However, if Scotland and Italy draw then France will travel to Kiev next Wednesday for their final qualifier requiring at least a point to progress.

Payback

Ahead of Ukraine's penultimate qualifier, away to Lithuania on Saturday, Blokhin has targeted two wins in a bid to halt French hopes. "I will be happy if we manage to beat France and keep them out of the Euro 2008 finals," said Blokhin. "The French manager Raymond Domenech has done everything to secure every possible advantage for his side at the expense of the other teams. "He insisted, for example, that we should play away to the Faroe Islands early in the spring, when we failed to reach our top form, but not in August. "Now we have a chance for a payback and we will all do our best to spoil France's mood."
