Azzurri coach hails success in Scotland
Roberto Donadoni admits it was a 'very good result' after Italy secured qualification for Euro 2008 with a 2-1 win over Scotland.
Christian Panucci headed home an injury-time winner at Hampden Park to deny Scotland a place in next summer's tournament.
And Donadoni, who replaced Marcello Lippi as Azzurri coach after last year's World Cup win, was delighted to take the points.
"It was a very good result for us," Donadoni told
Sky Sports News. "It was a very good game, not only for us, but also for the Scotland team.
Joy
"This is one of the best reasons for our joy because when you have a chance to win one game in this stadium, with these people, it's very, very good.
"Sometimes you lose the game in the last minute and sometimes you win the game. This is football, this is the sport."
Luca Toni, who put Italy ahead inside the first two minutes, felt his early goal was the key to his team's success.
Important
"My goal at the beginning has been important because it immediately allowed us to gain the advantage," the striker told Rai TV.
"The stadium was in chaos. We played a great match and we have been able to win."
Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro added: "We showed once again to be a strong and compact side that, when we know we are obliged to win, we do everything to go on the pitch to show we are the World Cup winners.
"In Italy, we play a high level of football. We won the Champions League as well as the World Cup."
