Steve Howard is targeting a place in the Scotland squad after scoring in the B international against Republic of Ireland.
The Derby County striker headed a late equaliser in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Ireland and now wants a spot in the full setup.
Though he has yet to score in 13 Premier League appearances this season, the 31-year-old feels he can provide Scotland with a different dimension.
Howard said: "I believe I can break into the main squad - without a doubt. If I didn't I wouldn't be here.
Dying breed
"Guys like James McFadden and Kenny Miller are great players, but I've always said guys like myself are a dying breed. There are not many of us around.
"Hopefully the manager will see something in me and pick me for the next squad."
Meanwhile, Scotland coach Alex McLeish believes the B side did not play to Howard's strengths against their Irish counterparts.
McLeish said: "Steve's strength is from crosses into the box.
"We hardly got a cross in all night, but the one cross we got in, he scored from."
