Defender was carrying hamstring problem during Portsmouth clash
Newcastle United's Claudio Cacapa has blamed a hamstring injury for his poor outing against Portsmouth.
The Brazilian defender's last appearance for The Magpies came against Harry Redknapp's men, in a game in which he lasted just 17 minutes before manager Sam Allardyce made the decision to replace him with Rozenhal.
Newcastle found themselves 3-0 down in the first 11 minutes with Cacapa culpable for both Benjani Mwaruwari and John Utaka's strikes.
Shaky
The 31-year-old has revealed that he should not really have featured against Portsmouth, explaining that he chose to play despite a hamstring problem.
Cacapa also voiced his determination to bounce back from his shaky display, insisting that a poor 17 minutes does not make him a bad player.
"If the truth was known I should not have played against Portsmouth because I had a bit of hamstring trouble," he told the
Chronicle.
Desperate
"After the way we had lost at Reading after doing so well against Everton and Spurs I was desperate to get out there against Portsmouth.
"What is particularly annoying for me is the fact I have played against Benjani a lot of times in the past and I have always done well against him.
"I did not do well that day. You know, there is a saying in football that you do not become a bad player after just one game.
"Well, I aim to show people I have not become a bad player after just 17 minutes."
