Celtic defender John Kennedy's latest injury may not be as bad as first feared.

Kennedy may return to action within 12 weeks

Celtic defender John Kennedy's latest injury may not be as bad as first feared - although he could still be out for up to three months. Kennedy, 24, had to leave the pitch on a stretcher during Celtic's UEFA Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday after an awkward fall just before half-time. He underwent an MRI scan on his left knee on Thursday and, according to Celtic's website, initial results show he has sustained damage to his lateral meniscus and the posterior lateral complex of the knee. This means the injury might not be as severe as first thought and now further investigation will be carried out on his knee on Friday.

Diagnosis

The website report added: "If the initial diagnosis is confirmed, John could possibly return to action within 12 weeks." While Celtic anxiously wait on news of Kennedy, it has emerged that goalkeeper Artur Boruc could require knee surgery sooner than the club had hoped. But the 27-year-old Pole is still hopeful of being able to play in the vital Champions League clash with Milan in the San Siro on 4th December. Boruc told the Evening Times: "Everything is sore. I need surgery on my knee. I have to have an arthroscopy on it. "I was going to wait until the end of the season, but now I don't think I am going to wait that long. "It's not really good just now. But hopefully I will be fit for Saturday's game against Hearts and for the match in Milan."
