Graeme Souness believes Liverpool's form will not impact their 'derby' game at Manchester United on Saturday

Manchester United against Liverpool remains the biggest fixture in English football, according to Graeme Souness.

United host Liverpool, live on Sky Sports Premier League, in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off. Jurgen Klopp's men have attracted plenty of plaudits with their attack-minded philosophy this season, while United's style has been more reserved under Jose Mourinho, yet it's United that sit two points ahead of Liverpool in the Premier League table.

The last three league matches between these two English sides have finished in a draw, but with second place still very much up for grabs and the duo just one point apart, there will be an added edge this time around.

Liverpool great Souness, who won three European Cups and five league titles in his six full seasons at the club, remains adamant that this fixture remains the standout one in the English football calendar.

"It's the biggest game in English football involving the two most successful teams who don't like each other much," he told Sky Sports.

"The recent form doesn't come into it - that's what derbies are about. Liverpool are on fire and are scoring lots of goal but that will count for nothing. Manchester United are huffing and puffing but they are digging results out. They've got resilience.
