Ajax suffered a shock first Eredivisie defeat of the season as Feyenoord smashed six past lowly Heracles Almelo. Heerenveen and Twente Enschede both picked up narrow wins to continue their push for European football. Amsterdam giants Ajax had not lost in their opening 12 league games this season, but went down to a surprise 3-1 loss at home to NAC Breda. The visitors took the lead on 25 minutes through Jan Vertonghen's own goal and it was 2-0 on 69 minutes courtesy of Matthew Amoah. NAC substitute Ahmed Ammi added a third goal on 88 minutes before Klaas Jan Huntelaar notched a last-minute consolation. Feyenoord joined Ajax on 28 points after thrashing Heracles 6-0 at De Kuip, with Roy Makaay scoring in the opening minute. Makaay netted again on 27 minutes and Kevin Hofland scored a third goal before the interval. Goals from Andwele Slory, Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Georgino Wijnaldum in the space of seven second-half minutes turned the game into a rout. Jacob Poulsen's goal four minutes before half-time secured Heerenveen a 1-0 win at NEC Nijmegen. AZ Alkmaar's disappointing season suffered a fresh setback after a 2-1 defeat at Twente. Blaise N'Kufo scored in each half for Twente, with substitute Graziano Pelle replying for AZ on 71 minutes.
