FAI confident they will get the right man

Veteran duo Don Givens and Don Howe have been put in charge of finding Steve Staunton's replacement as manager of Republic of Ireland. The Football Association of Ireland met with Givens and Howe on Friday to set out the credentials which they feel the new manager must possess and to answer any queries which the pair may have before beginning the search. Givens is currently the coach of the Irish Under 21 side and caretaker boss of the senior side, whilst Howe has experience of international football having worked under Terry Venables with England. Givens was in temporary charge of the side for the recent Euro 2008 qualifier against Wales, and believes that between himself and Howe they will find the right man for the job.

Knowledge

"I am delighted to be of help to the association," he said. "I feel that I have a good knowledge of what the job entails having worked with the three previous senior managers and having been in charge of the current squad for the recent game against Wales." Howe also told reporters: "I am honoured to have been asked by the FAI to assist in the selection of their next international manager and I am looking forward to working alongside Don Givens." The FAI board have given Howe and Givens the option of bringing in extra help if they wish to do so, and an official statement on the FAI's official website says: "All relevant information in relation to the process to date has been passed on to the panel for their consideration. "The panel will now take over the recruitment process and their first task will be to draw up a list of the candidates they wish to interview. "When they have completed their work they will return to the board with a recommendation."
President
Association president David Blood is happy with the progress made so far and believes that the search will be a success. "We are delighted that we have found two extremely credible football men known throughout the game for their honesty and integrity. "They will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to ensure that we get the best person for the job."
