Red Devils boss saddened by stabbings
Sir Alex Ferguson has voiced his disappointment at the violence that marred Manchester United's UEFA Champions League trip to Roma.
While there was no trouble inside the Stadio Olimpico, fans clashed outside the ground prior to kick-off that resulted in five being stabbed and needing hospital treatment.
With appalling scenes marring last April's trip to Roma, Ferguson is disappointed Tuesday's game, which finished all-square at one apiece, failed to pass without incident.
Disappointed
"This is something we hoped would not happen," stated Ferguson.
"We wanted a nice quiet night and to be able to go home with no incident. It is disappointing that has not happened.
"Obviously, we are not sure of the details, but we hope the supporters concerned will be okay."
Meanwhile, Ferguson is pleased with summer signing Nani's impact at the club, despite often missing out on a place on United's bench.
The £17million was given the nod on Tuesday and United's manager was pleased the Portuguese winger caused numerous problems for Roma.
Settling
"Nani is settling in very well at our club. When we brought him here, we told him he would not play all the time," said Ferguson.
"We will get injuries as the season goes on.
"But the times he has played, Nani has done well, particularly in the first-half tonight when he was a big threat."
