Veteran signs a new one-year contract
Veteran Michael Tarnat - the Bundesliga's oldest outfield player - has agreed a new deal to keep playing.
The Hannover 96 full-back, 38, who joined the club back in 2004, had been expected to hang up his boots in the summer.
But an impressive season has seen Tarnat sign a new one-year contract at the AWD Arena.
Tarnat, who has also played for Bayern Munich and Manchester City during his long career, told the club's official website: "I feel fit enough for another year of Bundesliga football.
"I think the club is developing in the right way and so it wasn't really a difficult decision to stay in Hannover for another year."
Void
Welcoming the new deal, Hannover sport director Christian Hochstatter said: "Michael's performances in recent weeks have shown that he is still a very good Bundesliga player despite his age.
"His departure would have left a large void, both from a footballing and from a personal point of view."
Tarnat has made 90 appearances for Hannover, scoring eight goals.
