Sky Bet have suspended betting on Manchester City signing Fabian Delph from Aston Villa this summer.

The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium by several British newspapers throughout the off-season and was backed on Friday at as short as 2/9 to complete the switch before betting was suspended.

Delph has established himself as a key part of the Villa and England midfields during the last 12 months, and new team-mate and ex-City defender Micah Richards revealed this week that Delph had asked him "what he thought about the situation" with his former club.

Sky Bet's Michael White said: "This market has been the transfer saga of the summer. It hasn’t been a question of where Delph was going, but whether or not Manchester City could get this deal over the line.

"Following a run of bets at very short prices today we have made the decision to pull the market as he looks bound for the Etihad."

Club captain Delph signed a new four-year contract in January under former boss Paul Lambert when he had just six months remaining, and played 26 times for the club last season.
