Former Everton midfielder Dan Gosling could be handed the chance to impress as Bournemouth make the long trip to face Hartlepool in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Gosling came off the bench for the final stages of Bournemouth's maiden Premier League victory on Saturday, the 4-3 thriller at West Ham.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is keen to hand fringe players chances on Tuesday night, while also maintaining the momentum provided by victory at Upton Park.

hartlepool defender Matthew Bates will miss the tie after suffering an Achilles injury in the early stages of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Stevenage and is expected to be replaced by Andrew Boyce, who came on for his debut at the weekend after signing on loan from Scunthorpe.

Fellow centre-back Harry Worley (ankle), goalkeeper Trevor Carson (toe) and full-back Jordan Richards (back) remain sidelined.

Striker Rhys Oates has impressed off the bench since the start of the season and manager Ronnie Moore has indicated he will be handed a starting spot.
